Twelfth grade

Encyclopedia : T : TW : TWE : Twelfth grade

A high school senior, is a student in the final year of secondary education in the United States and some other countries, generally 12 years after kindergarten or 17–18 years of age, but sometimes as old as 21. Members of this grade level are commonly struck by senioritis. Outside of the United States, the final high school year takes different terms. It is simply referred to as the twelfth grade (or grade 12 in English Canada), in Ireland, it is known as 6th year, in Singapore it is known as sec 4 or 5 and in Australia it is known as Year 12. In England and Wales it is Year 13, or Upper Sixth Form, referring to the second year of sixth form. In Northern Ireland, it is known as Year 14.

At the end, of this school year, there is traditionally a graduation event with the seniors who have completed all of the required work. Some also receive a class ring and diploma. In Germany, students wishing to take the Abitur must usually attend a thirteenth grade, although there has been some discussion of allowing students to take the Abitur after only twelve years.[link] Ontario eliminated its 13th grade after the 2002–3 school year.
