Plot
Isabella Swan, commonly known as Bella, makes the decision to take up residence with her father in the rainy small town of Forks, Washington as her mother travels to Florida with her boyfriend, who must constantly travel because of his career. Now the new girl in the small town of Forks, Washington, Bella is forced to go through all the normal changes of moving to a new school. Things in Forks, however, are sometimes deviant from normal, ranging from her new strange charisma towards the opposite sex to the odd effects of her prescene on the dynamic yet mysterious Edward Cullen, who, along with the rest of his captivating family, has the reputation of being very reserved, comunicating with only the members of his familiy. From Bella's observant nature, she notices that the alluring Edward is clearly more than he seems, and with her observations, she comes up with theories, knowing for sure that he is definitely not human. As the more and more time passes, Bella and Edward can't seem to stay apart from each other, despite Edward's original dislike for her (partly because he seems so vulnerable around her because of the specific scent of her blood). It is revealed that Edward is a vampire&mdash (after Bella tells him her theories of what he might be);actually, a part of an entire family of reformed vampires who substitute animals for humans in their diet. Conflict continues as the two fall deeply in love, with Edward having to restrain himself from the dangerous prey of Bella. The two learn more and more about each other with the time spent together and Edward soon reveals his unique, one-of-a-kind power as a vampire, one that only Bella is resistant to. Bella is eventually introduced to Edward's family, but soon becomes the target of an outsiders, the one who threatens her life the most is the hunter vampire who has his sights set on Bella and is determined to get a taste of her blood to extreme measures. The plot of the hunter's plan is then revealed, and is Edward too late to save her by then? The hunter's attentions culminate in an intense cross-state game of cat and mouse and vampire versus vampire.
The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer will continue as a series, with two more books currently under contract. The second of these books is named New Moon due out August 2006 and the third will be named Eclipse, which will come out October 2007. There is also speculation about a companion book to Twilight being published, called Midnight Sun. Midnight Sun is a retell of the events that occur in Twilight from Edward's point of view. If it is indeed released, it will probably appear sometime after Eclipse.
The first of the three books is currently being optioned by MTV Studios and may potentially become a major motion picture..
