TypePad is an onlineblogging service from company Six Apart Ltd, generally considered the largest paid blogging service in the world. As of December 2005, it ranked about 250th among all websites in traffic according to alexa.com. Originally launched in October 2003, TypePad was based on Six Apart's Movable Type platform, and shares technology with Movable Type such as templates and APIs, but is marketed to non-technical users and includes additional features like photo albums and moblogging.
The service is available in several languages and countries around the world, but in the United States is sold at three different subscription levels. Other hosted weblog offerings generally include fewer features but are free services that do not require a subscription. Examples include Microsoft's MSN Spaces, Google's Blogger, Yahoo! 360º, Automattic's WordPress.com and others.
TypePad is currently used by many large organisations and media companies to host their weblog, such as MSNBC, the CBC, the [BBC] and [Sky News].
