Typeface is a Marvel Comics character.

History

What is known about Typeface's past is that he fought in an unknown war for the US Army in which he lost his brother Joey. Something else happened upon his return to America, as this event caused Gordon's ex-wife to run away from him and she even took their son with her.

Feeling an outcast, Gordon became a signsmith. He was happy for a time until a man named George Finch bought the company he was working for, namely Ace Signs. Hating this turning event, Gordon stated to hate everything else that went wrong in his life and decided to become a super-villain, calling himself Typeface. He used a grease pencil to sign all the tattoos on his head, and the "R" on his head stands for "retribution". He began committing several vandalism crimes throughout the city, and when he was attacking local thugs, he caught the attention of Spider-Man.

Surprisingly enough, Typeface used all the giant letters he has and managed to defeat the webslinger. After succesfully escaping and returning to his apartment, he replaced the "R" letter on his head by an "A", which means "annihilation".

Thomas later sought revenge against Finch and wanted to kill him, but was once again stopped by Spider-Man. Typeface wanted to kill Spider-Man for intervening, but when he saw the webslinger being attacked by the Spider-Hybrid, Typeface remembered the wise words his friend Joey once gave him "Just live, man". Deciding to accept that advise, Typeface helped Spider-Man defeat his nemesis and later on didn't even want to kill Finch anymore, realizing it would be a mistake. However, when Finch wanted payback at Typeface for humiliating him, he found the device which Gordon would use to detonate bombs he would use to kill Finch, Finch set them off and demolished an entire building, killing himself and for a time, it was believed that Typeface died in the explosion as well. When the police arrived, they even held Typeface responsible for the explosion.

Mysterious reappearance

Apparently having survived the explosion, Typeface became a vigilante. He waged war against a gang called the "Penny-Ante Brigade". After taking the gang and their leader, Spellcheck, down, Typeface even mimicked Spider-Man's note when he leaves thugs for the police to arrest by saying "Compliments from your friendly neighborhood Typeface". After that moment, Typeface fell into comic limbo, not seen for many months.

Returning for Marvel's Civil War event, Typeface has apparently chosen sides with Captain America against the super-hero registration act.
