U.S. Route 309

U.S. Highway 309 (a.k.a. Joseph Hunter Highway) is a formerly designated highway in Pennsylvania which was the main connection between Philadelphia, Allentown, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before the northeast extenstion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike opened in 1957.
History
The route started out as a Native American path now refered to as the "Minsi Trail" which later become Bethlehem Pike. The highway was signed in 1926 and was decommissioned in 1968, being replaced by Pennsylvania State Route 309.External links
