U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle is the DVD release from the European leg of the Elevation Tour from the rock band U2. It was released in November 2003. It was filmed in Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland.
Although the Slane Concert is tradtitionally held only once, U2 had sold so many tickets that they decided to have a second concert. This was the final concert of the first European leg of the Elevation Tour.
It was filmed on Saturday 1 September 2001 just moments after Ireland secured its place in the 2002 World Cup with the only goal of the match scored by Irish man Jason McAteer. The match was shown to the football (soccer) mad Irish crowd at Slane Castle prior to the concert, adding to the already festive air. Bono mentions the goal during 'Beautiful Day', singing 'Beautiful goal' at the songs closing. Later, he kicks a blown up ball off the stage symbolizing the historic kick. During New Year's Day, Bono drapes himself in the Irish flag, something he has seldom done - preferring the white peace flag, asking the crowd to imagine he's 'Jason McAteer'. The crowd was in a frenzy for most of the night making this concert video one of the most compelling recordings of the band playing live.
The concert on 25 August, one week earlier, was the day after Bono's father's funeral. Bono made a live tribute to him in Kite.
The DVD includes a documentary of the making of the album The Unforgettable Fire (part of which was recorded in the castle's ballroom) and a bonus track, Mysterious Ways (left out of the setlist on the DVD because it didn't "fit in"). It was performed between Where The Streets Have No Name and Pride (In The Name of Love). All songs performed that night (except Mysterious Ways) appear unabridged and in order.
Guitars used (Edge): Gibson SG, Gibson Explorer, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson Les Paul Custom, Fender Telecaster, Fender Stratocaster, Rickenbacker 330-12, Taylor acoustic, Fernades electric. Bono: Gibson Hummingbird, Gretsch Irish Falcon.
