USS Antietam (CG-54), named for the site of the Battle of Antietam, Maryland, between Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee and Union forces under Major General George McClellan, in 1862, during the War Between the States is a Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy laid down by the Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation at Pascagoula, Mississippi on 15 November 1984, launched on 14 February 1986, and commissioned on 6 June 1987. Antietam operates out of her home port of San Diego, California.

With her guided missiles and rapid-fire cannons, she is capable of facing and defeating threats in the air, on the sea, on the shore, and beneath the sea. She also carries two Seahawk LAMPS multi-purpose helicopters, but especially for anti-submarine warfare [ASW].

There was a previous USS Antietam, an aircraft carrier, in the U.S.N., during and following WW-II.
