USS Kearsarge

USS Kearsarge has been the name of four commissioned ships of the United States Navy (and another ship that was renamed during construction). The first was named for a mountain in New Hampshire; the later ones were named in honor of the first.
- The first USS Kearsarge, a sloop of war, fought one of the American Civil War's most memorable naval actions.
- The second USS Kearsarge (BB-5), which led her class of battleship, sailed with the Great White Fleet.
- The USS Hornet (CV-12), an Essex-class aircraft carrier, was briefly named Kearsarge before she was launched.
- The third USS Kearsarge (CV-33), a Ticonderoga-class aircraft carrier, served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
- The fourth USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, was commissioned in 1993 and remains Active in service as of 2006.
