Ueda is a city in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
The city was formed on March 6, 2006, the city of Ueda, the towns of Maruko, Sanada and the village of Takeshi (all from Chiisagata District) merged to form the city of Ueda. The new city will replace the former city of Ueda for the first time in 87 years.
As of April 1, 2006, the population of the new city of Ueda is 163,256 with a population density of 296.00 people/km². The area of the new city is 552.00km², which will make it the 5th most largest in Nagano Prefecture.
