Encyclopedia : U : UN : UNA : Unadon
A Unadon (鰻丼 lit. "eel bowl", less commonly spelled "unagidon") is a popular donburi (rice bowl) dish made with unagi, grilled eel coated with a sweet sauce.
Variations include Unajuu(鰻重,almost same except for filling in a black box), Nagayaki(長焼き,almost same except for that eel and rice are separateley served), and Hitsumabushi(櫃まぶし).
There are two styles of grilled eel. One is the Kanto Region Style(関東式), which is the way that eel are roasted first, smthered secondary, finally grilled with sauce. The other is Kansai Region Style(関西式), which is grilled with sauce only.
Unadon takes its name from the Japanese words Unagi no Kabayaki(鰻の蒲焼, Grilled eel) and and donburi (for rice bowl dish).
