United North America
Encyclopedia : U : UN : UNI : United North America
United North America is a website that supports the "merger" of the United States of America and Canada into a single federal state. It is seen to some as a progressive effort to counterbalance the various regional blocs that are forming across the world such as the European Union. The premise is that because Canada and the US share the same culture, language, geography and history that the Canadian provinces are best suited to join the United States in their present configuration rather than form a supranational union.
The use of the word merger comes from this explanation in their [FAQ]:
- By definition a merger is a joining of two things, and in the case of Canada and the US this amalgamation would not be one of two equal partners like so many politicians like to claim. [...] However, after such a Union the United States would not be the United States as we know it today. The Union would be a new Union, just as it was every time it expanded in the past.
