United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
Encyclopedia : U : UN : UNI : United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
The United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources has jurisdiction over matters related to energy and nuclear waste policy, territorial policy, native Hawaiian matters, and public lands.
Its roots go back to the U.S. Senate Committee on Public Lands, created in 1816. This committee was renamed the U.S. Senate Committee on Public Lands and Surveys in 1921, and then, upon merger with the Committee on Indian Affairs, the Committee on Territorial and Insular Affairs, the Committee on Mines and Mining, and the Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation in 1946, became the U.S. Senate Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. In 1977, it became the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Indian Affairs were removed from its jurisdiction into its own committee.
