The University of Sonora (Spanish: [es], abbreviated as UNISON) is located in the state of Sonora, Mexico. Sonora has quickly established itself as one of the Mexican's leading seats of learning, Today one of the most important universities in northwestern Mexico.
Reputation
- Sonora University is one of the most accredited public universities in the country.
- According to CENEVAL, Sonora has recently ranked 5th in the Mexican university-ranking table.

History
It was founded in 1942 after a committee to create a state university was formed on August 10, 1938.
Research and teaching
Sonora University has research departments and teaching schools in most academic disciplines. The University provides educational programs in the following colleges:

Postgraduate programmes
In the postgraduate level, Sonora tends to have a slight bias towards scientific subjects, but it also has a number of strong humanities and social science schools.

Admission
Admissions processes at Sonora is based on qualifications relevant to their chosen undergraduate course, admission tests given by the university, and, in some subjects, the interviews which are held between applicants and faculty members.Postgraduate admission is first decided by the department or research centre relating to the applicant's subject. In recent years, Sonora has made greater efforts to attract overseas students.
