The University of Richmond School of Law (T.C. Williams School of Law), located in Richmond, Virginia, was founded in 1870 as a college within the University of Richmond. The 2007 U.S. News [list of America's Best Graduate Schools] ranks Richmond's School of Law at number eighty. The school has approximately 500 students.
Due to the school's proximity to the capitals of both Virginia and the United States, students have "unsurpassed opportunities for observation of the legal process". [link]
Richmond publishes four scholarly legal journals: University of Richmond Law Review, Richmond Journal of Law & Technology, Richmond Journal of Global Law and Business, and Richmond Journal of Law in the Public Interest.
Notable faculty
- Rodney A. Smolla - Serves as Dean and specializes in constitutional law; argued Virginia v. Black before U.S. Supreme Court.
- Ronald J. Bacigal - Specializes in criminal law and procedure. He also serves as Reporter of Criminal Decisions for the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
- Robert Bork - Distinguished Visiting Professor of American Constitutional Law
- W. Hamilton Bryson - Specializes in Virginia procedure and legal history. He is the Blackstone Professor of Law.
- John G. Douglass - Specializes in criminal law and procedure and in evidence. He also serves as Director of the lawyering skills program.
- Carl Tobias - Specializes in torts and constitutional law. A prolific scholar, he serves as the Williams Professor of Law.
