Uppaara

Uppaaras are part of the Backward Castes of Karnataka. Some believe that Uppaara word indicates Upa (Near, Close) Veera (Heroes).

They are similar to Tigalas and Kurubas. Another interpretation is that they are Salt Makers. Generally they worship Shiva as Mailara Linga.
