The Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve is part of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Originally part of Ahmanson Ranch, this area was sold by Washington Mutual after lengthy issues concerning development on the oak savanna.

A cave, known as the Cave of Munits, with evidence of past activity by Native Americans lies just across the Ventura County line in this area. The park borders Castle Peak Park and can be accessed though that park via the El Escorpion Trail.
