The Upper Silesian Industry Area or Upper Silesian Industry Region (polish: Górnośląskie Zagłębie Węglowe, GZW) is an urban area in Silesia, Poland centering around Katowice in Silesian Voivodship (previously capital of Katowice Voivodship). Total population for whole the metropolitan region is about 3.5 million, with 2.8 million from the Katowice urban agglomeration (Górnośląski Okręg Przemysłowy) and 0.7 million from the Rybnik area (Rybnicki Okręg Węglowy).
