Upto11.net is a fan-based music recommendation and community search site that integrates P2P-user music collections, Wikipedia articles and user supplied keyword tags/categories and playlists to aid in artist and song discovery.
Unlike systems that require the user to rate music, or upload their song library, upto11 uses the digital music collections of hundreds of thousands of P2P users to drive the recommendations. These P2P user collections contain close to 10 million song files, representing rare, regional or out-of-print recordings as well as those from more mainstream or recent artists.
By looking at the artist-to-artist relationships and the depth of user interest in each artist as determined by the number of files that they have for each artist, upto11 enables users to get relevant recommendations on their first visit by simply typing in the name of a band that they like. Given the diversity of P2P user collections, recommendations can be produced even for fairly rare artists. Users can control the popularity level of the recommended bands, choosing to dive into the Long Tail by using the [Popularity Slider].
As users explore the groups they discover, they can store them in a personal profile via bookmarking them. As they bookmark artists, users can create classification tags, or "file unders." Other users can subscribe to favorite tags or to other user bookmarks via RSS feeds in order to continue the discovery when off-site.
Upto11 enables song previews and song and album purchasing via links to iTunes, Amazon, BuyMusic, MSN Music and Gemm.
