Värmland County

Värmland County, or Värmlands län, is a county or län in west central Sweden. It borders the Swedish counties of Dalarna, Örebro and Västra Götaland, as well as the Norwegian counties of Østfold, Akershus and Hedmark to the west.

The county has more or less the same boundaries as Värmland Province, except that the municipalities of Karlskoga and Degerfors are now part of Örebro County.

Administration

Värmland County was formed in 1779, when it was separated from Närke and Värmland County.

The main aim of the County Administrative Board is to fulfil the goals set in national politics by the Parliament and the Government, to coordinate the interests of the county, to promote the development of the county, to establish regional goals and safeguard the due process of law in the handling of each case. The County Administrative Board is nominally a Government Agency headed by a Governor. See List of Värmland Governors.

The county of Värmland inherited its coat of arms from the province of the same name. When it is shown with a royal crown it represents the County Administrative Board. Blazon: "Argent, an Eagle displayed Azure beaked, langued and membered Gules."
