The City of Västerås (Västerås Stad) [vɛstər'oːs] is a Swedish municipality in Västmanland County in central Sweden. Its seat is located in Västerås, where also most of the population live.

Towns

The three largest towns with pop. figures from 2002:
  1. Västerås 102,000
  2. Skultuna 3,100
  3. Hökåsen 2,800
  • Västerås is one of Sweden's oldest cities.
  • Skultuna is situated about 13 kilometers north of central Västerås. It evolved around Skultuna brass works, established in 1607 by Charles IX of Sweden. Due to low profits, the brass works was closed in 2005, and its 6 remaining employees were let go; it will now be turned into a museum.
  • Hökåsen is located about 10 kilometers from central Västerås. It began as a community of summer cottages, but has now evolved into a suburb.
