Vaikom Satyagraham

Vaikom Satyagraham (1924 - 25) was a satyagraham (movement) in the southern Indian state of Kerala against untouchability in Hinduism. The movement was centered at the Shiva temple at Vaikom, near Kottayam. The movement resulted in abolishment of untouchability in his realm by the then King of Travancore.
Mahatma Gandhi also participated in this Satyagraham, and several other national leaders of India including C. Rajagopalachari, Acharya Vinoba Bhave and E.V. Ramswami Naykar had associated themselves with this struggle.
