King Opera House

The King Opera House located on Main Street has always been considered a historical building being first built in the last 1800's. The Opera House is home to many past plays & performances, and a past history that is a bit shocking.

Building Style

The King Opera House theater has a victorian style interior with several seats below and on the balcony areas with an exquisite look, and design. The theater is quite large and well sized for performances. The Opera House below consists of a basement with 2 couches, and 2 small closet sized dressing rooms. The basement area is used for actors so that they can change in the dressing room, and have a place to wait until it is their time to go on stage, but unfortunetely the area can be highly cramped. Especially if there are large casts in a performance.

King Opera House Today

The King Opera House is currently used
by the Young Actors Guild to host performances to many plays. Past plays Include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland, and many more
performances.
The King Opera House has almost always brought on fabulous perfomances.

The Shocking Past of the Opera House

The Opera House was completed in the late 1800's, but that actually isn't the most well known part about its history. In the early 1900's a young actor of the King Opera House fell in love. In fact he went to the Van Buren train depot while trying to run away with the daughter of a local doctor.

Some friends of the doctor saw the couple at the train station, and phoned the doctor to inform him of what was going on. The doctor instantly ran to his horse, and buggy to retrieve his daughter from the train station, but he actually ended up whipping the young man to his death.

It is said that A ghost will drift back to what anchored it to earth.
Well this ghost is apparently rumored to actually haunt the King Opera House to this very day.
Janice Cochrane, a previous owner says the ghost was first seen by a muscian during the first production of the reopened theater in 1979.
She's also stated that a director of another play claims to have seen, and actually visited with the ghost.

The ghost is said to materialize, dressed in a top hat and Victorian style coat with a long cape. Janice also has stated that once after all the actors left, and only she remained that she felt as if someone else was in the theater with her, and that it was almost as if the hairs we're standing up on the back of her neck.
She said she felt like the ghost was present, whether the King Opera House is haunted or not we may never know.
