Variable air volume
Encyclopedia : V : VA : VAR : Variable air volume
A variable air volume (VAV) device is a computer-controlled zone damper used in HVAC systems to vary the flow of air through ductwork. Unlike a zone damper, the VAV:
- Allows variable control rather than just "open" or "shut"
- Usually allows computer control, often via sophisticated networking such as BACnet or LonWorks
- Often contains flow monitoring features allowing feedback to the control system of information that may include:
- *temperature
- *flow volume
- *pressure upstream and downstream of the VAV
