Vedanta University
Encyclopedia : V : VE : VED : Vedanta University
Anil Agarwal, a successful Indian businessman who heads the London based Vedanta Resources corporation, has announced plans to create a new university, Vedanta University, and endow it with US $1 billion. Vedanta University is to be modeled most closely on Stanford, according to Agarwal, with a similar technological park for startups corporations and similar educational programs, that would include liberal arts, law, medicine, basic sciences and engineering.
Keeping in view Agrawal's desire for a scenic location close to a large body of water, the Government of Orissa has short-listed three possible sites for the proposed Vedanta University. These potential spots for the upcoming dream university are at Banki in Cuttack, Tangi in Khurda and Rambha in Ganjam district. While the location in Banki has the Mahanadi river in the backdrop, the Tangi location has Chilka lake as natural beauty. The proposed site in Ganjam district has both Chilka lake in the backdrop surrounded by hills.
