Vegueria
Encyclopedia : V : VE : VEG : Vegueria
A vegueria is a historical territory demarcation of Catalonia. It is a medieval institution which existed from the 12th century to the 18th century. It was actually the territory under the rule of a veguer and was roughly equivalent to Aragonese merinático and Castilian corregimiento.
In modern times, vegueries have been legally referred during the Spanish Second Republic in Southern Catalonia, and they may also be adopted after the approval of the currently under discussion new Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia.
