VidaLinux

VidaLinux is a Linux distribution based on Gentoo. Because Gentoo is notorious for its arduous installation process VidaLinux uses the Red Hat Anaconda installer to make it easier for end users to install it. Its default desktop environment is GNOME. The purpose of VLOS (VidaLinux Desktop OS) is to make the Linux operating system more accessible to home and office users. It combines the power of ebuilds and portage and compiling all software from source (aside from a select few larger ones, which are available in binary) into an easy-to-use package. The VLOS team has selected the most appropriate tools for home and office use, including:

VLOS (Vidalinux Desktop OS) was created by Antonio C Velez Baez an IT consultant from Puerto Rico with the purpose of helping new users with the installation of Gentoo Linux, thanks to the contributions of Victor Prada who made the first changes to the anaconda installer Vidalinux Desktop OS born. Actually the project is maintained by two guys which made the improvements and adjustments.

Versions

Vidalinux comes in two different flavors, a Download and Purchase version. While the Download version technically has all the same software packages as the Purchase version, the difference is that the Purchase version (which can be bought for $25 USD) contains many binaries of often used programs, while the Download version forces the user to download ebuilds of these packages and build the binaries themselves. The process can take weeks to build all the packages contained in the Purchase version.
