Vidal is a small community located in southeastern California on US Highway 95 between Needles and Blythe. Wyatt Earp spent the last winters of his life in Vidal, working claims of gold and copper he found nearby. Average temperatures in Vidal in January range from 41F to 67F, and July temperatures range from an average low of 78F to a high of 108F. The highest temperature ever recorded in Vidal was in 1905, when the mercury hit 127F. The lowest recorded temperature was in 1911, when the thermometer recorded a low of nine degrees.
The part of the Mojave Desert where Vidal is located receives very little rainfall in a normal year. On average, Vidal receives just 5.17 inches of precipitation per year, with July averaging just 0.27 inches and January 0.87. The community lies at an elevation of 812 feet above sea level.
