Video 5 8 6
Encyclopedia : V : VI : VID : Video 5 8 6
"Video 5 8 6" is an instrumental piece recorded by British group New Order in 1982. In its entire form it was released as a single by Touch Records in 1997, although 2 edited versions had appeared back in 1982.
Although credited to New Order, it is believed Stephen Morris is the sole architect of the song. "Video 5 8 6" is a long form demo of the track "5 8 6" from the album Power, Corruption & Lies and also bears many similarities to the group's 1983 hit, "Blue Monday". It is believed the song was recorded for the opening of the club the group co-owned, The Haçienda. On release it reached #81 on the main British singles chart and #19 on the British indie chart.
Bassist Peter Hook has said the key to the title "5 8 6" can be found in another of the group's songs, "Ecstacy"; 5, 8 then 6 is the song's bar structure.
