Vigilance
Encyclopedia : V : VI : VIG : Vigilance
Vigilance is the act of watching for something to happen, of watching for danger. It is not something that humans are very good at, since it is difficult to maintain attention for very long without some stimulus. A security guard is just one of many occupations where vigilance is a primary duty.
