Vodei encoded AVI files cannot be played without the Vodei Multimedia Processor, also known as Vodei MP [link]. While the Vodei MP is advertised as a free download, users actually need to pay a $24.95 one time registration fee [link] for unlimited viewing and no more registration reminders. Vodei encoded content targets mainly BitTorrent users, but can also affect other P2P users when these protected AVI's are then shared on other networks. Vodei has sparked and fuelled many discussions in the Inmatrix Forums [link] as to the real purpose of the software, with a conspiracy theory involving Vodei and Movies Empire [link] which is a website offering pornographic movies.
