WEEK-TV

WEEK-TV is the NBC affiliate for the Peoria-Bloomington, Illinois television market. It transmits its analog signal on UHF channel 25, and its digital signal on UHF channel 57, both licensed to Peoria, Illinois. It is owned by Granite Broadcasting Corporation, and is sister station to WAOE, the area's UPN affiliate.
The station currently has the highest rated news programs in the area. Its offices, studios, and transmitter are all located at 2907 Springfield Road in East Peoria, Illinois. Originally on Channel 43, it moved to channel 25 in 1964.
History
Hitting the Airwaves
On Sunday; February 1, 1953 at 7 PM Central Standard Time, Peoria’s very first NBC-TV affiliated UHF (Ultra-High Frequency) television station, WEEK-TV; Channel 43 began broadcasting. WEEK-TV was owned and operated by Oklahoma City-based West Central Broadcasting Co. whose President was E.K. Gaylord who also served as President of the Oklahoma Publishing Co. The board Chairman of Directors was Governor Robert S. Kerr (Oklahoma Democrat). West Central also co-owned radio sister station, 1350 WEEK-AM (now WOAM).
