Encyclopedia : W : WK : WKT : WKTC-FM
WKTC featured a country music format. It went on the air around 1975. "Katie Country" was at 104.3 and licensed to Tarboro. Curtis Media bought the station in 1989 and moved it to the old WEQR channel at 96.9. The station was very popular up and down the I-95 corridor from Rocky Mount to Fayetteville. In 1998, Curtis Media moved WKTC again, this time to Rocky Mount with Pinetops as the city of license at 95.5 FM. The signal was much reduced from its former 100kW glory.
