WKZL (107.5KZL) is a Mainstream Top 40 station licensed to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and serves the Piedmont Triad area, which also includes Greensboro and High Point. The outlet, which is owned by Dick Broadcasting, operates at 107.5MHz with an ERP of 100kw.
History
WKZL, which signed on the air in 1967 as a AOR, has been a Top 40 since the late 1980s but took a detour into Modern-leaning Adult Top 40(as 107.5 The Eagle) in the early and mid 1990s, only to return to Top 40 in 1999.
The station was owned by Nationwide Insurance in the 1970's and 1980's, but was sold to Dick Broadcasting in the early 1990's. Current morning personality Jack Murphy (Andrew Acuff) has been in place for 15+ years. In April of 2006, a lawsuit was filed by a Winston-Salem woman against Murphy and the station, alleging that Murphy defamed her by overstating her criminal record. The woman claimed Murphy labeled her "a violent person" and the fallout resulted in a downturn for her business and her personal life. Murphy is scheduled to be deposed by the woman's counsel on June 1, 2006.
