WMKE-CA

Encyclopedia : W : WM : WMK : WMKE-CA

WMKE-CA is the MTV2 affiliate for Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the United States. It is owned by KM LPTV, and broadcasts on VHF channel 7. The station's studios are located at 3974 South 27th St. in Milwaukee, with the station's transmitter and tower located atop the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in downtown Milwaukee; this was the same tower originally used by WCAN-TV, WXIX, WUHF, WVTV and WDJT before WVTV and WDJT moved to towers on Milwaukee's northeast side. The station's signal is directed north from that site to prevent interference with Chicago's WLS-TV (Channel 7).

The station began broadcasting in November 1985 on channel 8. It moved to channel 7 in August 2000 to make way for WMVS's digital signal on channel 8.

Like most over-the-air MTV2 affliates, it was an affiliate of The Box until that network's acquisition by Viacom in 2001.
