WRNO-FM is a classic rock radio station serving New Orleans, Louisiana. The Clear Channel Communications station broadcasts at 99.5 MHz with an ERP of 100 kW.
History
Although its current slogan is "We're the Rock of New Orleans," the station's call letters stand for "Westbank Radio New Orleans." Since the 1960s WRNO has gone through many incarnations with different rock music formats, finally adopting the current format in 1997. WRNO was also home to a popular shortwave radio service in the 1970s and 1980s.
WRNO alumni include former PD Mike Costello (brother of late WRNO owner Joe Costello), now owner of WTIX-FM; DJ-turned-actor John Larroquette; and writer-producer Vance DeGeneres.
On May 16, 2006, it was officially announced by Clear Channel that WRNO would flip to a news/talk format soon. Details about the station's name and call letters have not been released (www.billboardradiomonitor.com.)
