WTMU-LP

Encyclopedia : W : WT : WTM : WTMU-LP

WTMU-LP is an LPTV station serving the Boston market. Owned by ZGS Broadcasting, it serves as the Telemundo affiliate for areas of the Boston market not covered by WNEU. It is operated in conjunction with NBC Universal through WNEU.

History

WTMU-LP signed on in 1995 as W32AY, with the same Telemundo programs it has always had. In 2000, the station began to relay its programs on WWDP, giving it a chance to create competition with WUNI-TV, the established Spanish station in the area. By February of 2002, W32AY had become WTMU-LP (presumably for Telemundo), and by that July, WWDP discontinued its relay of the station.

In December 2002, NBC (who acquired Telemundo in 2001) purchased WPXB (now WNEU), and used it to become a new WTMU relay, as it is today.

Because WBPX has filed to put a digital television station on WTMU's spot on UHF channel 32, it has applied to move to channel 67.
