WTVK

Encyclopedia : W : WT : WTV : WTVK

WTVK is a U.S. television station. Owned by Sun Broadcasting, it is The WB affiliate for Fort Myers, Florida. It is on analog channel 46 and cable channel 6, hence the WB6 branding. This station offers the news program "Daily Buzz" on weekday mornings between 6 and 9 AM. Its transmitter is located in Punta Gorda, Florida.

The station began in 1986 as WNPL-TV, the second independent station in Southwest Florida. It joined The WB in 1995 as a charter affiliate and changed its call letters to WTVK in September.

On March 9 2006, Acme announced that most of its stations, including WTVK, will affiliate with The CW Television Network when it debuts in September 2006. However, UPN station WNFM is cable-only, while WTVK is a full-powered station. This made it a near-certainty that WTVK would be Southwest Florida's CW affiliate in any case.

On May 15 2006, Acme Broadcasting announced that it would sell WTVK to Sun Broadcasting, owned by local broadcaster Joe Swartzel.
