WTVY is a CBS-affiliated television station broadcasting on channel 4 in Dothan, Alabama, owned by Gray Television. The station's signal, originating from a transmitter in Holmes County, Florida, reaches large portions of Alabama, Georgia and Florida. WTVY is also the designated CBS affiliate for the Panama City, Florida market, where Gray also owns WJHG-TV. Because of this, WTVY is the only major station in Panama City to never change its affiliation.
History
WTVY's first broadcast was on February 12, 1955, originally on channel 9. The station moved to channel 4 around 1960. The station was located outside of Webb, Alabama until it moved to downtown Dothan in 1993, when it took over the old Houston Hotel.Benedek Broadcasting bought WTVY from Woods Communications in 1995, Benedek was purchased by Gray Television in 2002.
Programming
The news broadcasts on WTVY have consistently ranked as the top-rated in the Dothan market. Newscasts air weekdays from 5:30-7 a.m., and 12-12:30, 5-5:30, 6-6:30 and 10-10:30 p.m. Central, and weekends at 6:00 on Saturday 5:00 on Sunday, and 10:00 p.m.. Syndicated programming includes Wheel of Fortune, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Montel Williams Show, and Live with Regis and Kelly.WTVY broadcasts a UPN affiliate on its digital signal, WTVY-DT. It will affiliate with both The CW and My Network TV once UPN ceases broadcasting in September 2006.
