WVBT is the Fox Broadcasting Company affiliate serving the Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, VA television market (Designated Market Area). The station is licensed to Virginia Beach. Its transmitter is located in Suffolk, Virginia. WVBT broadcasts its analog signal on Channel 43, and is sister station to WAVY-TV.
WVBT began operation in March 1993 with Home Shopping Network programming, along with infomercials and religious shows. It affiliated with the WB network in January 1995, and shortly thereafter came under a local marketing agreement with LIN's WAVY-TV Channel 10.
LIN came to an affiliation agreement with Fox in 1998, and WVBT became a Fox affiliate that August, sending the WB affiliation to WTVZ. LIN purchased the station out-right in February 2002.
Every Night at 10 PM, FOX 43 broadcasts "FOX 43 News at 10: Your Late News an Hour Earlier". It features local news and weather from sister station WAVY News 10's Super Doppler 10 weather center. The news program lasts 45 minutes, and is followed up by the "FOX 43 SportsWrap", with sports news and highlights from the previous day, anchored by WAVY sports director Bruce Rader on weekdays and Ahmed Fareed on weekends. The news is broadcast by WAVY news anchors and local reports come from WAVY reporters as well.
