WWE Bad Blood was a World Wrestling Entertainment(WWE)-produced pay-per-view event that took place, usually, in June and was the successor of the King of the Ring pay-per-view. In 2003 and 2004, it was an exclusive event for the RAW brand. Bad Blood was first shown in 1997, titled as In Your House: Badd Blood and took place on October 5. The pay-per-view is known for introducing the Hell in a Cell match, and the main event of every Bad Blood has been a Hell in a Cell match. The pay-per-view was retired in 2005 due to ECW One Night Stand as it was replaced when WWE Vengeance moved to June and The Great American Bash moved to July.

This event took place on October 5, 1997 in the Kiel Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

On the afternoon preceding this event, Brian Pillman, who was scheduled to face Dude Love on the show, was found dead in his hotel room. The announcement was made to fans during the half-hour "pregame show" prior to the PPV broadcast itself, and two matches (noted below) were hastily added to the card to make up the difference.
