Wade Phillips
Encyclopedia : W : WA : WAD : Wade Phillips
Wade Phillips (born June 21, 1947 in Orange, Texas) is the current defensive coordinator for the National Football League's San Diego Chargers and the former head coach of the Denver Broncos and the Buffalo Bills. While not successful as a head coach, he is considered one of the great defensive minds in Football. Wade is the son of former NFL head coach Bum Phillips. Phillips' most successful coaching stop was at Buffalo. He always kept the team competitive and in the playoff hunt. A stunning loss to the Titans in the 1999 playoffs haunted Phillips for the rest of his time at Buffalo and the team never fully recovered. His recent success as the Charger's defensive coordinator and his desire to be a head coach again has prompted some rumors that he may get his wish soon.
He also has the dubious distinction of having been replaced by a father and a son from two head coaching positions. By Jim Mora Sr from the New Orleans Saints and by Jim Mora Jr from the Atlanta Falcons
