Wakaf Tapai is a small town in the state of Terengganu, on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.
The population comprises 95% Malays, 4% Chinese and 1% of other races. The town is well known for its malay rice, called nasi dagang.
The town got its name Wakaf Tapai from the Malay language words wakaf, meaning small hut at the cemetery, and tapai, a type of food made from tapioca which tastes like wine.
