Walter Hudson

Encyclopedia : W : WA : WAL : Walter Hudson

Walter Hudson (c. 1944 in Brooklyn, NY – 1991) of Hempstead, New York was the fifth most obese human in medical history. He weighed 1,197 pounds before his death.

Weight and Size

Walter Hudson's chest measured 106 inches in circumference, and his waist was 110 inches around. After his death in 1991, Hudson's body was found to weigh 1,500 pounds.

Life

When discovered by Newsday, Hudson was agoraphobic and had spent most of the prior 27 years in bed. He lived with his family and expressed that he was content with his condition.

Gregory involvement

Even though Hudson's organs functioned as well as a normal 21-year-old's, nutritionalist Dick Gregory used Hudson as his claim to fame, often saying that Hudson had lost between 200 and 800 pounds, and using him for his own Bahamian diet. When Hudson refused to participate in the making of a videotape about the diet, Gregory left.

Death

Walter Hudson died at age 47 in his sleep after years of starvation dieting. His death came just a few weeks after he announced his wedding date.
