Wang Guowei

Wang Guowei (1877-1927) also known as Qing¡'an and Baiyu, styled Guantang and Shuiguan, was a Chinese scholar and Ci poet.

Wang was born in Haining in Zhejiang Province and at 16 he entered the Hangzhou Zhonguen college. The next year he passed the imperial examination and got a clerk/proofreading job in Shanghai. After an aborted move to Tokyo he taught himself western philosophy and taught in Tongzhou Normal College and Suzhou Normal College. Then in 1906 he moved to Beijing to study Ci until moving to Japan in 1911 to avoid the revolution in China. He returned to China in 1916, and taught as a professor at the College of Literature in Qinghua University until he committed suicide in 1927 by drowning himself in Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace in Beijing.
