- In Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, a ward is an electoral area of a borough, city, council, county, district, parish, shire or town (Local Government Area). An example is New Orleans' 9th Ward.
- In Japan, a ward (ku or 区 in Japanese) is a section of one of the larger cities. See Wards of Japan.
