Portrayed by  Adam Busch

Warren Mears (spelled Warren Meers in the subtitles) is a fictional character in the U.S. television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, played by Adam Busch.

Warren was introduced ("I Was Made to Love You", season 5) as a lonely young man who built a robotic version of his dream girlfriend for company (and, indeed, sex). Over the following year, Warren progressed from this mild beginning to become a misogynistic murderer driven by an urge to dominate, and his growing mental instability.

In season six, Warren was the leader of "the Trio", a gang of nerds scheming to take over Sunnydale through technology and magic; while they began as equal partners in the scheme, Warren soon began to boss around his teammates Andrew Wells and Jonathan Levinson, finally driving Jonathan to betray him.

His plans, of course, were thwarted by Buffy Summers, propelling him into a murderous fury ("Seeing Red"). He shot Buffy, who narrowly escaped death; a stray shot killed Tara Maclay, driving Willow Rosenberg insane with grief. Willow quickly tracked Warren down, tortured him and flayed him. ("Villains").

Literary devices

The writers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer makes use of three literary devices in Warren's character

Warren's death is arguably foreshadowed on two occasions:

In addition, Warren's death arguably uses poetic justice. In "Seeing Red", Warren comes up with the plan to skin a Nezzla demon to get the Orbs of Nezzla'khan. However, this idea of skinning becomes part of Warren's undoing in "Villains".

Warren's misogyny leads Buffy to symbolically emasculate him by crushing his orbs (of Nezzla'khan) to powder.
