Warren Miller was born in Hollywood, California in 1924. He is a legendary movie maker of ski films. As a young man he took up the hobbies of skiing, surfing, and photography. After service in World War II he bought his first movie camera and started to teach skiing at various American ski resorts, beginning at Sun Valley in 1946, where he car-camped in the parking lot. He combined his interests by making sports films which to date number more than 750.

His first film was shown in a basment in Portland, Oregon. He now produces a new film every year, which is then taken on tour at the beginning of winter. The screenings are elaborate events designed as celebrations of the beginning of each skiing season.
