Wazir Khan Mosque
Encyclopedia : W : WA : WAZ : Wazir Khan Mosque
The Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan, was constructed in seven years, starting around 1634-1635 A.D., during the reign of the Mughal Emperor ShahJehan. It was built by Ilam-ud-Dinansari, Governor of Lahore till 1639 A.D., who was commonly known as Nawab Wazir Khan. The word 'Wazir' means minister in the Urdu language.
One of the interesting things about the mosque is a bazaar consisting of 22 shops with little doors, that forms an integral part of the mosque's plan. This design is the first ever in any mosque in the world. The shops are in two parallel rows with a brick paved passage in between, as seen in the pictures.
