West Ham is in the London Borough of Newham located 6.1 miles (9.8 km) east north-east of Charing Cross.
From 1888 to 1965 it formed part of the County Borough of West Ham.
The Association Football club, West Ham United F.C. are named after area.They are nicknamed the Hammers. They play at the Boleyn Ground in nearby Upton Park. West Ham, contains West Ham Park, a 77 acre (312,000 m²) public park, and has a London Underground station, West Ham station.
West Ham gives its name to the Parliamentary constituency of West Ham, although the constituency extends over other areas such as Plaistow and Stratford. It is currently represented by Lyn Brown.
