The Westfield Shoppingtown Topanga, more commonly known to locals as either the Topanga Mall or Topanga Plaza, is a shopping mall located on Topanga Canyon Boulevard on the border between the communities of Canoga Park and Woodland Hills in the western part of Los Angeles's San Fernando Valley. It is owned and operated by Westfield.
It is a two story mall consisting of 125 tenants (soon to be over 200 tenants) and featuring multiple, massive skylights throughout the mall which allow natural light to fill the building during daytime hours. Sears, Nordstrom, and Robinsons-May (soon to be Macy's) are its "anchor" stores and it at one time also housed a Montgomery Ward, prior to the company filing for bankruptcy and subsequently pulling out.
The mall is currently undergoing an expansion project which will add nearly 100 stores, including a large two-story Target, a Neiman Marcus department store, several new restaurants with a cafe-style dining terrace, a "Westfield Playtown" for children, a "family lounge," and an indoor carousel. In addition, the Nordstrom will be moved to a larger building off to a corner of the parking lot which faces the corner of Topanga and Victory Blvds; the Neiman Marcus will eventually be built into the former Nordstrom building, which is attached to the mall. Three new parking structures are being erected to supplant the ground level parking which will be lost when the mall's outer walls are expanded to accommodate the new stores.
May Department Stores Company, the parent company of Robinsons-May, was recently purchased by a larger corporation, who will be closing several locations, including the store at Westfield Shoppingtown Topanga. It is unknown if Westfield will remove the Robinsons-May building from the mall during their rennovations or if a new tenant will be secured for the spot.
Westfield also owns the Westfield Shoppingtown Promenade mall, located just two blocks up Topanga Canyon Blvd. from Topanga Plaza as well as the Sherman Oaks Fashion Square (Westfield Fashion Square), also in the San Fernando Valley, and several other malls around the greater Los Angeles area.
This mall is has become somewhat famous locally since various Hollywood celebrities can occasionally be spotted there and it has been used in the United States in many television commercials and movies such as Malibu's Most Wanted.
